Mission impossible
The outcome of the U.S. presidential race remains up in the air, but one thing’s certain: America’s next chief executive will face a slew of thorny economic challenges -- a mission made even harder by the ongoing partisan rancor in Washington. We look at some of the biggest hurdles.
Anti-Clinton bias?
There’s an argument that the media has it out for Hillary Clinton. Will Rahn argues that while recent critiques of “breathless” Clinton coverage have made some fair points, the idea that Bill, Hillary and their defenders have proffered for decades; that there’s a pronounced anti-Clinton bias in the press, is off-base.
50 million children
The United Nations’ children’s agency is urging world leaders to tackle the monumental crisis presented by the millions of kids who have fled their homes due to conflict, violence or abject poverty. The figures are staggering, and UNICEF warns something must be done to stop kids falling through the cracks.
Something’s fishy
Love seafood? Watch out for fishy business; Some 20 percent of seafood samples are mislabeled, according to an ocean conservation group, with most cases involving cheaper fish being passed off as a pricier catch. It doesn’t only hit consumers’ wallets -- it can also pose serious health risks.
Antibiotics and allergies
Children given antibiotics early in life may face a greater risk of allergies later. New research suggests they’re more likely to develop hay fever and eczema. The reason isn’t clear, but experts say it’s more evidence of just how important it is not to overuse antibiotics.
