Nuclear battle
Vice President Biden returns to Capitol Hill today to lobby lawmakers regarding the nuclear accord with Iran. At the White House yesterday, President Obama tried to counter critics of the agreement at a news conference. At one point, a question from CBS News Chief White House correspondent Major Garrett led to a tense exchange between the president and Garrett.
Presidential salesmanship
Here are five ways Mr. Obama is trying to sell the Iran nuclear deal to the American public and a deeply skeptical Congress.
Planned Parenthood
Republicans in Congress announced an investigation after the release of an undercover video that has Planned Parenthood on the defensive. The Center for Medical Progress, an anti-abortion group, released the video, claiming it proves that Planned Parenthood is selling organs of aborted fetuses -- an accusation Planned Parenthood vigorously denies. CBS News correspondent Jan Crawford reports the founder of the Center also says his group has up to a dozen additional videos of top officials from Planned Parenthood that will be released in the days to come.
Bush 41
Former President George H.W. Bush broke a vertebrae in his neck when he fell at his home in Kennebunkport, Maine, a spokesperson tweeted last night. CBS News correspondent Bill Plante reports the 91-year-old was in stable condition and "fine," but would need to wear a neck brace.
Islamberg, New York
At dusk, the murky summer rainfall made it difficult to navigate the winding rural roads that lead to the small village of Islamberg in Hancock, New York. Holy Islamberg, as residents refer to it, is home to about two dozen Muslim families, mostly African-American. Islamberg is the picture of a traditional and tranquil Islamic community - not of immigrants, but of mostly second- or third-generation Americans hailing from cities like New York.
Hidden fees
While credit cards aren't created equal when it comes to interest rates, there's another area where consumers need to be on their toes: fees. The average credit card has six likely fees, with the most common one being a late payment fee. But some cards carry more pitfalls than others, with the worst offenders carrying 12 potential fees. Here is what to look out for.
Obesity season
With the warm weather and extra free time away from the classroom, you might assume that kids spend a lot more time running around outdoors over summer vacation. But that assumption would be wrong. Here is what really happens.
Emmy nominations
Some of the biggest stars in television will find out today if they are on the receiving end of an Emmy nomination. Nominees for the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards will be unveiled at 11:30 a.m. ET -- a later start-time than the typical slot. The West Coast folks now won't have to wake up at the crack of dawn to find out if they're nominated.
Drone races
They fight in wars and fly over farms dusting crops, but drones are transforming into something new: sporting equipment. One-hundred twenty pilots from all over the world will send packs of drones zipping around an 11,000-seat stadium at speeds of up to 80 mph. CBS News correspondent Carter Evans previews the first U.S. National Drone Racing Championships at the California State Fair.
