Trump supporters tweet #repealthe19th after poll shows he would win if only men vote

Two polls from the statistical website FiveThirtyEight hit the internet on Tuesday evening, showing the result of the presidential race if only men or only women voted on Election Day 2016.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the outcome shows Hillary Clinton winning if only women vote, and Donald Trump winning if only men vote.

It wasn’t long before Trump supporters started calling for a rather extreme measure to ensure the victory of their candidate -- repeal the 19th Amendment.

The 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote, was ratified under 100 years ago. This election year saw the first female nominee of a major political party, making the trending hashtag #repealthe19th feel especially ironic.

Men -- and women -- Trump supporters used the hashtag through out the day on Wednesday. This comes as Trump’s campaign is working to repair their candidate’s standing with female voters after the “Access Hollywood” tape scandal, which exposed his lewd comments about women.

As unlikely as it is that the 19th Amendment would actually be repealed, women and supporters of equal voting rights were naturally not amused. They used the hashtag themselves to express their disbelief, possibly pushing it into trending status.
