Eyeing Russia
Since the end of the Cold War, the U.S. has been drawing down its military presence in Europe. But at the main docks in Bremerhaven, in northern Germany, that’s no longer the case. In fact, quite the reverse is the order of the day, as an American combat brigade heads for Russia’s backyard. But could incoming President Donald Trump reverse the reverse?
President’s picks
With President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration just 11 days away, a spate of his top Cabinet nominees are to undergo confirmation hearings in the Senate this week. Congress can’t confirm Mr. Trump’s nominees until after he’s sworn in, but they can hold hearings to help expedite the process. So what can we expect from this week’s packed schedule of hearings?
Deadly baggage
Lawmakers are taking a new look at rules about guns on planes after Friday’s airport shooting in Fort Lauderdale. Part of the surprise of the deadly rampage was the fact that suspect Esteban Santiago arrived on an incoming flight from Alaska -- and so did his gun.
Retail woes
Traditional U.S. retailers from high-end to low are in the dumps these days, battered by subpar consumer spending this holiday season. But while Macy’s, Sears and other other brick-and-mortar chains are quick to blame their troubles on changing consumer tastes, some other factors also come into play.
Ford’s future
Ford is laying out its vision to grow beyond its roots as an automaker, focusing on new technology to help people escape gridlock and get around crowded cities. Only on “CBS This Morning,” we speak to Bill Ford, the great-grandson of Henry Ford, about the company’s future, and his relationship with Donald Trump.
Sneaky fees
It is the American economy’s dirty little secret: The advertised prices consumers pay for goods and services are rarely the price they actually pay. Whether buying a car, booking an airline ticket or signing up for telecom services, hidden added fees significantly boost the final price.
