California storm

A storm that's expected to pack heavy rain and hurricane-force winds began pushing into Northern California, where residents were stocking up on emergency supplies and some schools were cancelling classes. As much as 8 inches of rain could fall on coastal mountains before the storm lets up, the National Weather Service said. The storm is expected to be one of the windiest and rainiest in the region in five years.

Apparent interrogator talks

One of the psychologists reported to have crafted and carried out the CIA's controversial interrogation program called the Senate's report on the spy agency's enhanced interrogation techniques "unbalanced," reports CBS News correspondent Nancy Cordes.

Construction delays

According to a new study, about $120 billion is needed annually for highway repairs, but the construction projects designed to upgrade our country's infrastructure bring more delays for commuters. CBS News correspondent Jeff Pegues reports on why many highway construction projects often take longer than planned and blow their budgets.

Race relations

After Barack Obama was sworn in as the nation's first African-American president, Americans had a bright outlook on race relations: 66 percent in April 2009 said race relations were generally good. More than five years later, the latest CBS News poll shows, views on race relations have dimmed dramatically. As people look to the president to explain the current strife and his proposed solutions, Mr. Obama has taken an academic tone and attempted to put the issue in a bit of historical context.

"Santa rally?" quashed?

The historic, unprecedented stock market uptrend out of the Oct. 15 low -- in which the S&P 500 closed above its five-day moving average for a record 29 days straight -- has ended. The NYSE Composite Index, another gauge of the stock market, sliced below both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages in one fell swoop yesterday and has tipped into a fresh downturn for the first time since September.

Victim's friends

"CBS This Morning" has now spoken with all three friends of alleged rape victim "Jackie" mentioned in the gang rape story in Rolling Stone. The story said they had seen and spoken to her the night of the alleged assault. CBS News correspondent Julianna Goldman reports that the accounts the three gave CBS News of what happened that night were similar to each other, but very different from how the article portrayed Jackie's.

Coding women

Women represent 12 percent of all computer science graduates, a drop from 37 percent in 1984. CBS News correspondent Jericka Duncan reports on Reshma Saujani's mission to change those numbers and get more than a million girls to code over the next 10 years.

Phishing quiz

"Phishing" emails have gotten so convincing that even the experts can be taken in by a well-crafted fake. That's what executives at Intel Security discovered when they circulated a version of their Email Phishing Quiz to 100 attendees at the RSA Internet security conference earlier this year. Take the quiz yourself.

Chemicals lower IQ

Two chemicals found in a number of common consumer products may be damaging to fetal development and could even lower children's IQs. Researchers found that the mothers with a higher volume of chemicals in their system were still within the national average of a larger sample measured by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which indicates Americans are being exposed to too high a dose of these common chemicals.
