Gages Lake residents said they couldn't even open their windows due to the smell from the dead fish.
So far, 25 commercial bags of fish have been collected, the Wildwood Park District said.
The fish kill-off happened in Valley Lake in the suburb of Gages Lake, and the smell has been keeping many from enjoying the park during an otherwise optimal summer period.
