Singer and songwriter d4vd has been arrested on suspicion of murder for the death of a 14-year-old girl whose dismembered body was found last year in a Tesla belonging to the musician.

The arrest comes after the singer, whose name is David Burke, was the target of a grand jury investigation into the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez.

"Detectives from Los Angeles Police Department, Robbery-Homicide Division, have arrested David Burke, a 21-year-old resident of Los Angeles, for the murder of Celeste Rivas. Burke is being held without bail," LAPD announced on X.

TMZ obtained a video that shows officers arresting the singer.

Detectives will present the case to the L.A. County District Attorney's office for formal charges. Prosecutors said they plan to announce their decision on whether to file charges on Monday.

Burke's attorneys, Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski and Regina Peter, said in a statement that the "actual evidence in this case will show that David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez and he was not the cause of her death."

"There has been no indictment returned by any grand jury in this case and no criminal complaint filed," the attorneys said. "David has only been detained under suspicion. We will vigorously defend David's innocence."

Former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani said there are different types of grand juries, some of which do not need to return an indictment.

"In an investigative grand jury, typically, they don't have the power to return an indictment," Rahmani said. "That's one of the differences between state and federal grand juries. Typically, on the federal side, the grand jury can do both. If you convene a grand jury in state court for an investigative purpose, they typically will not return an indictment as well. They can prepare a report but that will go to the DA's office."

The grand jury investigation came several months after the remains of Hernandez were found on Sept. 8, 2025, in the trunk of a Tesla registered in d4vd's name that was parked in a Hollywood tow lot. Her body was found "severely decomposed" and "dismembered," according to court records.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA - SEPTEMBER 25, 2025: Photographs, intimate notes, and flowers are among the items left at a memorial on Thursday for slain teen Celeste Rivas Hernandez who was found dead in the trunk of a Tesla in a Hollywood tow yard on September 25, 2025 in Lake Elsinore, California.(Gina Ferazzi / Los Angeles Times via Getty Images)

A mid-afternoon shooting near a Miami school prompted a lockdown and left three men hospitalized, with two of them in critical condition, authorities said. A fourth man was detained at the scene.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office said multiple 911 calls came in as rounds of gunfire were reported in the area shortly after 2 p.m.

Aerial footage showed the scene near Lillie C. Evans K-8 Center, which was placed on lockdown during the incident. Detectives recovered several firearms at the scene, and multiple yellow evidence markers were visible in the front yard of a home.

Witness Jake Gardner, who lives two blocks south of the scene near Northwest 75th Street and 21st Avenue, said he heard "10-plus gunshots" while on a Zoom call.

"I looked out my window, and there was some dude running behind a house with a gun. Looked like a Glock or something," Gardner said. "And then he kind of took off in his sprint and hopped over towards my neighbor's house". Gardner shared a cellphone video that he said showed the same person later being detained.

Investigators also confirmed a black Tesla is part of the investigation.

"We can confirm that the vehicle is involved in the scene, but we don't know how far the involvement is or who the owner is," said Argemis Colome, PIO for the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office. "They're going to need to get warrants, look into the vehicle".

The identities of the victims, as well as the person detained, have not been released. Police are also trying to investigate what role the victims played in the shooting.

Undocumented immigrants would be barred from admission to state colleges under a proposed rule by the Florida Department of Education.

The rule would also give schools the discretion to consider students' past misconduct in making admission decisions.

Under the proposal, each board of trustees in the Florida College System would be required to "ensure that all students admitted to the Florida College System institution are citizens of the United States or lawfully present in the United States."

Students would have to "provide clear and convincing documentation that he or she is a citizen of the United States or lawfully present in the United States," before admission.

The documentation must also be "must be credible, precise, and compelling."

A hearing on the proposed rule is set for May 14 at Miami Dade College.

The rule would only apply to Florida's 28 state colleges, not to its 12 state universities.

An email seeking comment from the department was not immediately returned on Thursday.

Another part of the rule allows state colleges to "deny admission or enrollment to an applicant because of misconduct if determined to be in the best interest of the Florida College System institution."

The move comes after some Republican lawmakers sought to limit the number of non-American students at public higher education institutions, even if they are in the country legally.

Bills in the Florida Legislature sought to limit the number of undocumented immigrants in higher education

A sweeping House bill (HB 1279) sponsored by Rep. Jennifer Kincart-Johnson, R-Lakeland, initially had a provision putting a 5 percent cap on undergraduate admissions for non-Florida residents when it passed the House. But the Senate removed it from the final version sent to Gov. Ron DeSantis' desk.

Another bill (SB 1052) sponsored by Sen. Erin Grall, R-Vero Beach, prohibited all higher education institutions from admitting any non-citizen who wasn't legally present in the country. That bill, however, was never heard in committee this year.

And a bill (HB 721) by Rep. Berny Jacques, R-Seminole, would have required schools to limit the number of enrolled students who are citizens of foreign countries and who are not permanent U.S. residents to a specified percentage of the enrolled student population.

That bill received one hearing and never made it to the House floor.

Florida has already passed legislation that repealed in-state tuition rates for approximately 6,500 immigrant students who were brought to the country illegally when they were children by their parents.

Also, legislation DeSantis signed into law last month, allowing the state to designate groups as "domestic terrorists," has another provision calling for the expulsion of students at state universities who "promote" support for such groups.

If a student's actions can be "reasonably interpreted" as an actual threat of violence, disrupt the learning environment, infringe upon the rights of others, or offer "material support for or the recruitment of members for such an organization," they can be expelled under the new law.

Kim Muratori documented when a tow truck took away her 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-400. She says it was the first time it had moved in the last 25 months.

A mechanic deemed it unsafe to drive.

"I had to insure it. I was making payments on it until about a month ago," Muratori said.

Muratori says it took a lengthy legal battle and an order from a judge for Mercedes-Benz of Fort Lauderdale to come get it.

"I have a lot, $17,000 of attorney's fees that are non-recoverable," Muratori said.

CBS News Miami spoke to Muratori in August. She told CBS News Miami she discovered the bumper was zip-tied to the frame, and an independent Mercedes-Benz technician found that the mileage on the odometer was lower than the mileage in the car's computer. She says the Mercedes-Benz dealership could have resolved this much sooner.

"If they had worked with me in the very beginning, before arbitration occurred, I would still be driving a Mercedes. But they ignored me," Muratori said.

She took them to arbitration last May and won. The arbitrator found the dealer violated Florida law and told it to take back the car and pay Muratori damages and some legal fees.

But she says the dealership didn't budge, so she had to take them to court.

"They really thought that I was going to walk away and not fight them," Muratori said.

The dealer argued in court that the arbitrator was biased. A judge ruled there was no evidence of that and upheld the award.

Eduardo Ayala is Muratori's attorney. He says this case lasted much longer than it should have, and says winning can still be costly.

"Even if you have resources, the way arbitration law is, the way contract law is in Florida. If you have a small case, you pretty much have no case," Ayala said.

We reached out to the dealer's parent company, AutoNation, and their attorney about why this took so long. A company spokesperson said, "We can confirm we have fulfilled our obligations following the court's decision," the spokesperson said.

Muratori had to buy a second car the whole time. She says she's just lucky she had the means to fight this all the way.

"Other people may not have that luxury," Muratori said.

CBS News Miami also reached out to Mercedes-Benz USA about this case. They declined to comment.

Muratori says she's going to write a letter to the CEO of AutoNation about this.

Walsh Children's Village, was cut by the Office of Refugee Resettlement within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), a longtime partner of the organization. The Archdiocese says they are still waiting for an explanation for why the funding was cut.

The Archdiocese insists the decision is not related to a recent exchange between Pope Leo and President Trump over a now-deleted AI-generated photo. An Archdiocese spokesperson stated that while the reason for the cut remains a "mystery," it is "not because of the recent dust-up between the Pope and President Trump".

Archbishop Thomas Wenski of the Archdiocese of Miami criticized the action. "You don't end a program, especially a program that has the success record that Catholic Charities does, because you'll be hard-pressed to reinstitute it when another wave of unaccompanied minors comes about," Wenski said.

The Bryan O. Walsh Children's Village can house up to 81 children. While occupancy numbers are currently low, the church noted that people living in nearby Cuba and Haiti could soon require their assistance. Children currently in the shelter's care will be transferred to other, fully-funded organizations.

Peter Routsis-Arroyo, CEO of Miami Catholic Charities, said the ultimate victims are the children. "The Catholic Church certainly will go on. Who loses? The children lose. The kids lose. The government loses," he said.

The church confirmed it will not file an appeal or a lawsuit over the decision, but is simply asking the government to reconsider.

The end of South Florida-based Spirit Airlines could be near after multiple news outlets report that the low-cost airline could be forced to liquidate its assets due to skyrocketing fuel prices.

The fuel price hikes could really be the final straw for the Dania Beach-based carrier, according to the Wall Street Journal and other news outlets, which say that Spirit Airlines could liquidate as soon as this week.

" Adding in this fuel crisis could be the dagger to Spirits, kind of emerging from bankruptcy, "said travel expert Zach Griff with "From the Tray table" online newsletter.

'If I'm buying a ticket for, you know, August, late summer, even early summer, at this point, I would definitely be careful. Be careful, and make sure you have a good backup plan if you do do that," Griff said.

But If the airline does liquidate, Griff says there are plenty of other airlines looking to jump in.

"What they give up in Fort Lauderdale will be quickly chopped up, likely by JetBlue, just because they're the bigger airline. But, but, you know, some of these others, United Allegiant, they're, they're always looking to grow in Fort Lauderdale," Griff said.

Spirit Airlines had been facing financial challenges for years

Spirit Airlines operates more than 500 daily flights to more than 60 destinations, including at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Miami International Airport.

The budget airline has been facing financial headwinds for several years. The airline has been trying to recover from its second bankruptcy in less than a year.

Now, it's facing the added challenge of the spike in fuel prices.

Recently, pilot and flight attendant unions made concessions to help Spirit Airlines survive. The airline was also trying to bring in higher-spending customers with bigger seats and bundled fares to compete with rival airlines.

Spirit Airlines had also been downsizing its fleet and pulling routes in an attempt to get back on track.

Passengers left wondering how they would be impacted if Spirit Airlines dissolves

Passengers said they were feeling uneasy hearing that the low-cost airline may soon dissolve.

"It's affordable and it's always available so if they would close down, it would definitely affect any travel plans of mine," said Jorvan Jonbaptist, who was traveling to North Carolina on Spirit on Thursday.

Jonbaptist said he has a return flight on Spirit next week and is now worried that it could be impacted.

"We have points and credits and silver elite members in the U.S. so yeah, it could be an issue," said Ken Pryor. "That's distressing. Wonderful news to hear on the way of flying out."

Pryor said he was flying to Boston on Thursday morning, which is a trip he makes from Miami International Airport every few weeks.

Cubans living in South Florida overwhelmingly support some form of military intervention in their home country, according to a new poll published Thursday by CBS Miami partners at The Miami Herald.

The poll, commissioned by The Miami Herald, asked 800 Cubans and Cuban Americans across Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, and Monroe counties if they were in favor of military intervention. The results showed that seventy-nine percent support some form of intervention, with some favoring toppling the regime and others wanting to deal with the humanitarian crisis, highlighting a range of priorities within the community.

"Whatever is needed to get the job done," said Cuban American Javier Yuanis. "My parents are Cuban, my grandparents are Cuban, and we were always told, you know, one day we would love to return to a free Cuba, and they never saw it; a lot of people died".

Yuanis stressed that addressing humanitarian needs must be secondary to achieving political change. "People are saying they need the food, they need this, they need all of those things, but that's not going to come unless freedom rings first," he said.

In addition to views on intervention, the survey also found that 78 percent of respondents disapprove of an agreement with Cuba that would allow the current government to stay in power in exchange for economic reforms.

"No, no, no," said Osbaldo Hernandez about a potential economic deal. "Everything out". Yuanis echoed the sentiment, expressing concern that a deal "is going to be similar to what Obama did. It's just going to fuel the government even further, and the people still suffer. So unless the regime is out, we don't want in".

The strong numbers in favor of regime change come at a time when Americans are questioning the U.S.'s intervention in Iran. A CBS News poll found that few Americans believe U.S. goals are being met in Iran, while a majority expressed worry and anger over the war.

"I don't think it's going to be as extreme as what happened in Venezuela or Iran, but as long as it forces that regime change, then I'm in support of it," Yuanis said.

"No more, no mas dictatorship, in Cuba, in Venezuela, in Iran, no more," Hernandez added.

The majority of those who responded in the survey said they have family on the island.

South Florida families continue to feel the strains of the current economy, with everyday expenses such as gas and groceries still putting pressure on household budgets.

While inflation has cooled in some areas, many families say prices are not dropping enough to make a real difference. As a result, they are finding new ways to stretch their dollars and stay afloat.

One Broward County mother of three says staying financially stable in this climate requires strategy, discipline, and consistency. Kiana Powell says even routine grocery trips have become more expensive.

"Same amount of items, same methods, but the price is getting a little ridiculous," Powell said. "Even when it comes to meat, you are now having to spend at least $15 just for a nice size for our large family".

We first met Powell last fall as she prepared her children for the back-to-school season. Months later, she says the financial pressure has not eased. Instead, she has leaned even more into the budgeting systems that help her manage costs.

"When I stopped doing my systems, that's when I realized I was paying more money," she said. Powell now relies on a combination of club memberships, subscriptions, and social media deal groups to stay within budget. She says online communities have become especially helpful for finding discounts on everyday essentials.

"A lot of times with those free groups on social media, every platform has someone sharing deals," she said. "If something's 50 cents, they're going to tell you". Recently, she was able to take advantage of a sale on laundry detergent, stocking up for a fraction of the usual cost. "I was able to grab so many things under $40," she said. "And as we know, laundry detergent could be about $15 for a nice size".

Her approach is simple: if it is a product her family uses regularly and it is on sale, she buys in bulk. Powell is also focused on how she shops. Working from home full-time, being a wife, and raising three children, she has turned to grocery pickup and delivery services to save both time and money.

"I'm either going to pick it up or have it delivered," she said. "That way I don't have to deal with the hustle and bustle, and I'm not spending extra on gas or getting sidetracked in the store".

Financial experts say Powell is not alone in her approach to the economy

Financial experts say Powell's approach reflects a broader strategy that can help families manage rising costs. Mark Hamrick, a senior economic analyst with Bankrate, says households should focus on prioritizing essential spending over discretionary purchases. "It's really about looking at the spending that you need to have versus what's nice to have but not necessary," Hamrick said. "If households focus on that, many should be able to cut back and better address this price shock".

For Powell, the key is being intentional with every dollar. "I have to be very intentional, and I have to know where I'm going," she said. "That's really how I've been doing it".

Experts also recommend looking for ways to boost income when possible. That could include joining the gig economy, taking on part-time work, or selling unused items to bring in extra cash.

A North Miami Beach woman appeared before a judge Thursday on attempted murder charges, accused of trying to kill a man who was shot in the back. The victim told police he believed she was attempting to rob him of hundreds of thousands of dollars in jewelry.

Laura Tavarez Ramirez, 24, was charged with attempted second-degree murder with a firearm. Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Mindy Glazer ordered Ramirez to stay away from the 35-year-old victim.

Glazer explicitly stated, "That means no contact with the alleged victim either directly or indirectly, in person or in writing, by telephone or through third parties, no contact with the victim through social media or other electronic means. Stay at least 500 feet away from the victim".

When asked by Glazer if she understood the stay-away order, Ramirez replied, "Yes".

What a police report says about the shooting that occurred last month

A police report says the shooting occurred on March 15 in a parking garage on the eighth floor of an apartment building at 16395 Biscayne Blvd. The victim was taken to Aventura Hospital with critical injuries.

During a 911 call, the victim reportedly told a dispatcher, "Laura shot me," and police later identified Ramirez through surveillance video from the scene. Police said surveillance video showed the two entering the building together just after 3 a.m. and getting into an elevator.

The police report states Ramirez was seen walking behind the victim and reaching into her purse. She was also seen running away. Ramirez reportedly lives in a penthouse at that same building.

The report said the two initially met at a jewelry store where the victim was having three Cuban link gold chains cleaned. The victim said the chains were valued at $100,000 each. They exchanged telephone numbers and met a few days later.

At the time of the incident, the victim was carrying a bag containing the three gold chains and multiple diamond watches valued at a total of $85,000.

Police are not commenting on the case because of the ongoing investigation and have not said what prompted the shooting, but the victim stated he believed Ramirez was trying to rob him.

Ramirez is being held without bond. Police searched the suspect's apartment and found an empty ammunition box and a firearms box.

Authorities recovered two firearms at the scene. The police report indicates the victim admitted he had a firearm with him and reportedly fired it at Ramirez after he was shot in the back, but she had already fled.

Tiger Woods ' attorney intends to fight an attempt by prosecutors to subpoena the golfer's prescription drug records following his arrest last month in Florida on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Attorney Doug Duncan said this week in a court filing that Woods has a constitutional right to privacy when it comes to his prescription medications. The attorney asked a judge overseeing the case in Martin County, Florida, to hold a hearing to determine if the drug records are necessary for the criminal investigation.

If the judge determines the drug records are necessary, Duncan asked for a protective order limiting their release only to prosecutors, law enforcement officers, state experts, and Woods' defense team.

Woods has pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence. A sheriff's office report said deputies found two pain pills in his pocket, and he showed signs of impairment after his SUV clipped a truck's trailer and rolled over on its side.

Woods was traveling at high speeds on a beachside, residential road on Jupiter Island with a 30 mph (nearly 50 kph) speed limit when his Land Rover caused $5,000 in damage to the truck, according to an incident report. Woods agreed to a Breathalyzer test that showed no signs of alcohol, but refused a urine test, authorities said.

Prosecutors told the court they would issue a subpoena seeking copies of all prescription medication records for the legendary golfer on file at Lewis Pharmacy in Palm Beach, Florida, from the start of the year through the end of last month.

Prosecutors also demanded in court papers on Wednesday that Woods reveal the names and locations of any witnesses he plans to present in his defense.
