Like so many other moments in this unpredictable 2016 campaign, the first presidential debate defied conventional patterns. Donald Trump declared himself the winner, but those in his inner circle worried Hillary Clinton scored more points than they anticipated.

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump spent an hour and a half hurling purported facts and information at each other, and at the massive television audience in last night’s debate. And both said some things that failed to pass the truth test. A small army of CBS News political editors and reporters was on-hand to check the nominees’ claims against reality.
Gypsy cops
