Church massacre
Police brought Dylann Roof back to Charleston Thursday night, a city left heartbroken after one of the deadliest mass shootings in state history. CBS News correspondent Jeff Pegues reports Roof is scheduled to appear at a bond hearing via video link today on charges he shot 9 people to death inside the historic black Emanuel AME Church, Wednesday night. Rev. Clementa Pinckney
Charleston is mourning the deaths of eight Emanuel AME Church goers and their pastor. The Rev. Clementa Pinckney was also a husband, father and represented his community as a long-serving state legislator. CBS News This Morning host Gayle King looks back at the life of Pinckney and how "service" was a word often used to describe how he lived.
Shooter's uncle
"How does my family escape this?" Carson Cowles, who identified himself as Roof's uncle, told CBS affiliate WBTV in Charlotte, North Carolina. With tears in his eyes, Cowles said Roof's family had no advance warning that he was capable of such violence.
Manhunt for escaped killers
The U.S. Marshals Service put David Sweat and Richard Matt, killers who escaped a New York prison, on its "15 Most Wanted" list. CBS News Correspondent Michelle Miller spoke to a former prison guard who worked at the maximum security prison in Dannemora, New York, as well as the couple now at the center of the investigation.
China island dispute
There are growing tensions between China, its neighbors and the U.S. over disputed waters in the South China Sea. The Chinese military is racing to build outposts on reclaimed land. Nearby countries are alarmed by the territorial expansion. CBS News Correspondent Seth Doane reports from a Philippine island that's also claimed by China.
Putin address
With relations between Moscow and Washington as strained as they've been since the Cold War, "CBS This Morning" co-host Charlie Rose has a rare opportunity to put questions directly to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Going extinct
A mass extinction - the sixth of its kind in our 4.5-billion-year history - is well underway and humans are to blame. That somber assessment comes from a new study yesterday, which found that extinction rates over the last century were 114 times higher than they would have been if humans had not been around.
