Docs: NY man joked with cops after estranged wife's murder
SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Court documents reveal new information about the reactions of a New York man hours after his estranged wife's murder, reports CBS New York.
Tax specialist Julius "Jules" Reich stands accused of fatally stabbing his pediatrician wife, Dr. Robin Goldman, as she took a shower. Reich and Goldman were in the middle of a divorce when she was murdered, according to the station.
When officers responded to a 911 call to the couple's multi-million dollar Scarsdale home in January, they reportedly found a bloody knife hidden inside of a folded newspaper.
Court documents show that within hours of the murder, Reich allegedly told police he was grieving, but also appeared to be in a joking mood.
According to the documents, he first told responding officers "it was probably a homicide," and later said, "I would like to take some of my prescription medicine for anxiety," according to the papers. He also asked officers if he would be able to attend Goldman's funeral.
The documents further show that while at police headquarters, Reich asked an officer, "What do you think of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton?"
The documents also say he apparently attempted to joke with another officer, saying, "You're not my boyfriend, you know."
Authorities believe that Reich used an 8-inch kitchen knife to stab Goldman 22 times, puncturing her hands, chest, abdomen and back.
"In what can only be described as an ambush, the defendant, as alleged in the indictment, entered the bathroom while his wife was showering and repeatedly stabbed her to death," Westchester County's acting District Attorney James McCarty said in January.
After the attack, prosecutors say Reich allegedly walked to the kitchen -- leaving a trail of blood -- smoked a cigarette and called 911, according to the station.
Reich has pleaded not guilty.
