Jon Stewart signs four-year deal with HBO
We knew he wouldn't stay away for good.
Jon Stewart is back on HBO -- for at least four years. The former "Daily Show" host just signed a contract that will showcase Stewart's work in short-form digital content on HBO NOW, HBO GO and other platforms. Stewart's contract also includes a first-look option for other film and TV ventures.
In a press release from HBO, the company states: "In his first project for HBO under the new deal, Stewart will view current events through his unique prism. Working with the pioneering cloud graphics company OTOY Inc., he is developing new technology that will allow him to produce timely short-form digital content, which will be refreshed on HBO NOW multiple times throughout the day."
"I'm so excited to be working with Richard [Plepler], Michael [Lombardo] and the entire HBO family," Stewart said in a statement. "Appearing on television 22 minutes a night clearly broke me. I'm pretty sure I can produce a few minutes of content every now and again."
Perhaps this means Stewart will produce briefs or short packages similar to those on "The Daily Show."
In October, Stewart told CBS News that while he did not miss working on "The Daily Show," he did miss his co-workers. He said he enjoys being able to take his kids to school and make runs to the smoothie store, where he claims he is the "mayor."
It looks like the new contract will allow the funny man to work with his colleagues while maintaining his status as mayor of the smoothie shop.
