"Game of Thrones" coming to IMAX theaters

"Game of Thrones" is heading to the big screen -- the really, really big screen.

HBO's fantasy epic will screen the final two episodes from last year's fourth season on IMAX screens later this month, along with an exclusive trailer for season 5.

This, The New York Times notes, will mark this first time a television show has been screened in an IMAX format.

Tickets for the engagement, which runs for one week from Jan. 23-29 on some 150 IMAX screens across the country, will reportedly go on sale in the coming days. Fans can check imax.com for screening information.

"The cinematic brilliance and grand scope of the series is perfect for the IMAX format," said Pamela Levine, chief marketing officer at HBO.

The episodes in question include the epic Battle of Castle Black in "The Watchers on the Wall," and the Emmy-nominated finale episode "The Children," which includes a certain confrontation between Tyrion Lannister and his father.

So far, HBO has only released very brief teasers for season 5. The new episodes are expected to return in April, but an exact premiere date has not yet been set.
