Ben Carson tops GOP presidential field in Colorado
Ben Carson leads the GOP presidential field in Colorado and Hillary Clinton is the leader among the Democratic candidates there, according to a Quinnipiac University survey released Wednesday.
A quarter of Colorado GOP voters said they back Carson, a retired neurosurgeon, who in a general election matchup against Clinton would beat her by 14 percentage points in the state.
Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, came in second place among Republicans in Colorado with 19 percent support. Meanwhile, 17 percent said they back Donald Trump and 14 percent back Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas. Support for Carly Fiorina, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush were in the single digits. Eleven percent of GOP voters in Colorado said they are undecided.
More than half of Democratic voters in Colorado -- 55 percent -- said they would support Clinton while just over a quarter -- 27 percent -- would support Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont. Two percent said they would back former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley. Fifteen percent of Democratic voters said they are undecided.
In addition to Carson beating Clinton in Colorado, all other leading Republican candidates would lead Clinton by at least 11 percentage points.
Clinton received the lowest favorability rating of any top candidate, the poll found, with 33 percent giving a favorable rating and two-thirds giving her an unfavorable rating.
The survey polled 474 Republicans between November 11 and 15 with a 4.5 percentage point margin of error. The poll also surveyed 404 Democrats with a 4.9 percentage point margin of error.
