Wal-Mart road rage incident ends in gunfire, arrest

ARLINGTON, Texas - Authorities say a man fired a gun into a minivan driven by an Arlington, Texas public school teaching assistant in an apparent case of road rage that began in a Wal-Mart parking lot, reports CBS DFW.

According to the station, Margaret Stamp was leaving the lot Wednesday morning when a man driving a white car pulled behind her and repeatedly flashed his headlights.

"The white car was right on my tail end, like I knew him. Like, pull over, pull over," she told the station.

Stamp's instincts told her something wasn't right. She told CBS DFW she dialed 911 and followed the driver into a nearby neighborhood, so she could get a street number on the location to provide to the 911 operator.

As she was on the phone with the police dispatcher, Stamp says the driver got out of his car, ducked, and then fired 11 gunshots in her direction. One bullet shattered the back window of her vehicle, according to the station.

"I was just hysterical, screaming, 'They shot at me. They shot at me. I can't believe they shot at me,'" she said.

Stamp said she threw her van in reverse and backed out, hoping she wouldn't hit anything as she tried to escape. She was able to drive down the block. She says the shooter drove away in another direction.

As she sat shaking in her van, a neighbor ran up and put the vehicle in park for her, according to CBS DFW.

Later that morning, Arlington police arrested a man in an unrelated case. Investigators say that man is now also a suspect in the shooting incident and will be charged.
