Back to 1994?

Republicans are about to wield the levers of power in the House and Senate under a Democratic president for the first time since Newt Gingrich squared off against Bill Clinton. There is a gauzy nostalgia about what the Clinton White House and the energized GOP-led Congress achieved, and what might be possible with that kind of divided leadership now. But, reports CBS News chief White House correspondent Major Garrett, the circumstances of those achievements are far different than what can be seen in the current political climate in Washington.

Ukraine ceasefire

The September deal meant to resolve tensions between Ukraine and Russia appears to have done little to halt the conflict. CBS News homeland security correspondent Bob Orr talks with CBS News senior national security analyst Juan Zarate about the ongoing tension between Ukraine and Russia.

Outdated words

The U.S. Army is about 21 percent black, but some were left wondering what decade they're living in when it was revealed that a little-known Pentagon regulation permitted "Black or African-American" soldiers to be identified as "Negro." CBS News correspondent Chip Reid reports there have been other parts of the government using such words.

Honor - 151 years late

When President Lincoln dedicated the cemetery at Gettysburg, he said the world could not forget the actions of the brave men who fought there. Yesterday, President Obama remembered the sacrifice of one of those men, awarding him the Medal of Honor. CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports on the heroism of First Lieutenant Alonzo Cushing.

Baby planets

It is an image that will overturn theories of how planets form and how common they are in the universe: Scientists scanning a star nursery with a high resolution telescope found a new star with what they believe to be baby planets orbiting the young sun, sweeping away and accumulating dust in their paths.

Polar Vortex 2

Prepare yourself for an invasion from the north. A blast of polar air is about to send temperatures plunging in the heart of America. CBS News correspondent Dean Reynolds reports it's the return of the polar vortex that brought misery a year ago. A mass of whirling cold air will dip southward this weekend, sending the mercury plunging.

Living like a caveman

What began as the paleo diet has exploded into a full caveman movement. Supporters believe eating, exercising and sleeping like our ancient ancestors will help us lose weight and feel healthier. CBS News correspondent John Blackstone reports on a family who showed us how to live the paleo lifestyle.

Guitar magic

He's been called one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Carlos Santana just released a revealing new memoir called "The Universal Tone." He writes about the painful memories from his childhood in Mexico that became inextricably linked with the music of home. Decades of ambivalence toward a classic Mexican sound have given way to a proud Mexican man who's now finding inspiration in his roots. Michelle Miller sat down with the musician for an intimate conversation.

60 years young

"Face the Nation" is celebrating 60 years on the air. It's one of the longest-running news programs, and it's more relevant than ever. It's the top-rated Sunday morning talk show and has the most viewers in its history. CBS News correspondent Jan Crawford takes a look at the show's staying power.
