Russia's interests

Secretary of Defense Ash Carter tells CBS News he's warned America's allies it's time to help fight ISIS, or risk ending up on the wrong side of history. And as Russia helps Syria's dictator gain the upper hand, Carter accuses Vladimir Putin of being "way off track," and says there will be consequences.

Scalia's death

The circumstances of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia's death have become fodder for conspiracy theorists, and while Donald Trump was careful not to trod too far down the path, he said there were still questions to be answered. Now the man whose comments sparked the rumors is trying to bring clarity.

"Racial language"

In a speech in Harlem, Hillary Clinton suggested there was "coded racial language" in Republicans' insistence that President Obama should allow the next president to fill the Supreme Court vacancy, instead of making the nomination himself.

"Diverse and exciting"

Hillary Clinton has paid special tribute to the unique charms of Nevada, trying to distance herself from comments by aides who suggested the state was "nearly 80 percent white." Were her staffers trying to tamp down caucus expectations, as her rival draws supporters to his events by the hundreds?

Deadly drought

El Niño is scorching the earth in parts of Africa. A million children are at risk of starvation -- many of them in the tiny nation of Lesotho, where we met a woman pained to be sending her grandkids to school with no breakfast. Conditions are getting worse, and experts say there's no relief on the horizon.

Quick confessions

A priest in Louisiana is offering confessions on-the-go in Cajun country. When Father Michael Champagne hits the road seeking sinners, he rides around in his spiritual care unit -- a converted ambulance.
