Super PAC airs emotional ad urging Biden towards 2016 bid

Draft Biden, a super PAC supporting a possible Joe Biden presidential campaign, has released its first television ad.

The group, created to encourage the vice president to join the 2016 race, is running the 90-second spot ahead of the Democrats' first presidential primary debate. According to the Draft Biden campaign, the current plan for the ad is to "run it on CNN the day of, leading up to, and the day after the debate."

While Biden will likely skip Tuesday's debate, rumors have swirled that he is nearing a decision -- and is leaning towards a White House bid.

Draft Biden's new television ad is hoping to push Biden towards a definitive answer in the days ahead.

The emotionally-charged spot, called "My Redemption," uses audio from a Yale University commencement speech Biden gave earlier this year, in which the vice president recounts the devastating day his wife and daughter were killed in a car accident.

"The incredible bond I have with my children is the gift I'm not sure I would have had, had I not been through what I went through," Biden's voice says, as photos of Biden and his family fade in and out of the video. "But by focusing on my sons, I found my redemption. Many people have gone through things like that."

The speech, given at Yale just weeks before Biden's son died from cancer, continues: "It'll be up to you, in this changing world, to translate those unprecedented capabilities into a greater measure of happiness and meaning - not just for yourself, but for the world around you."

The ad ends with two words appearing on-screen: "Joe, run."

The video is shown in full below:

The spot, while powerful, has already drawn some detractors. One Democratic strategist, David Axelrod, decried the video as "tasteless" and "exploitative."

Am I alone in finding this Draft Biden ad tasteless? It's powerful, but exploitative. Can't believe he'd approve. http://t.co/HJuoWXDgAs

The ad buy is six figures, according to a statement from the group.
