Snoop Dogg: Melbourne firefighters called to rapper's hotel room over smoke alarm

Where there's smoke, there's Snoop Dogg.

A group of firefighters responded to reports of a smoke detector alarm going off at a hotel where rapper Snopp Dogg, a.k.a. Snoop Lion, had been staying in Melbourne, Australia, on Friday morning.

It turned out that the alarm was indeed emanating from Snoop Dogg's room, although responders from the Melbourne Fire Brigade quickly ruled out possibilities of a blaze and deemed the area safe.

Once the commotion settled, the 42-year-old rapper, real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus, posed for photos with the firefighters:

Firefighter Trevor Brown, the senior officer who arrived at the scene, said his team was caught off guard, to say the least, when they discovered the famous rapper inside the hotel room.

"He was pretty funny, a really nice guy," Bowen told the Sydney Morning Herald. "If you didn’t know that he was someone famous you would just think he was a really nice guy."

Snoop also posted a photo with the fighters on his Instagram page:

A spokesperson for the MFB has declined to say what exactly caused the fire alarm to set off, although it appears excessive smoke may have been a factor, as Snoop's penchant for marijuana has been well-documented over the years.

In one of several run-ins with the law, Snoop was arrested in 2006 at the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, Calif., for marijuana possession.

He had previously been denied entry into Australia in 2007 due to numerous criminal convictions.

In January, a failed petition was started on Change.Org to try to convince Australian Immigration Minister Scott Morrison to revoke Snoop's visa into the country. It drew over 4,500 signatures.

The rapper has been performing Down Under as part of the ongoing Big Day Out annual summer music festival.

Snoop is next scheduled to perform in Sydney on Saturday.

His latest album, the reggae-fueled "Reincarnation," is up for best reggae album at the 56th annual Grammy Awards.

Snoop has been nominated for 13 Grammy Awards throughout his career, but has never won.

In an interview with Lee Cowan airing this weekend on "CBS Sunday Morning," Snoop said, "“I am the Susan Lucci of the Grammys."

We'll see if that losing streak ends when the 56th annual Grammy Awards airs this Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
