The birth was reported by Spanish newspaper El Pais and Hola! magazine on Wednesday. Reps for the couple have not confirmed the stories, but another source told People magazine that the baby was born over the weekend in Los Angeles.

Other sources told the magazine that Cruz had a baby shower at her home in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Jan. 16.

Cruz, 36, and Bardem, 41, announced in September that they were expecting their first child. The couple, who began dating in 2007, married in the Bahamas in July.

Both of the Spanish actors are Oscar-winners - she earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," in which he  also starred,  and he won in the Best Supporting Actor category for "No Country for Old Men."

The pair met while filming 1992's "Jamon Jamon," one of Cruz's first films.

The baby news comes a day after Bardem received a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his role in the Best Foreign-Language Film nominee "Biutiful."
