Ellen DeGeneres takes selfie with Samsung onstage, iPhone backstage

Academy Awards host Ellen DeGeneres' record-breaking celebrity selfie crashed Twitter Sunday night during a comic bit at the Oscars. But all people can talk about is what happened backstage.

DeGeneres toted what looked like the new Samsung Galaxy S5 onstage several times during the ceremony. But when the talk show host posted selfies from backstage, it was from an iPhone. MarketingLand's Danny Sullivan says he first spotted the switch in devices Sunday night on TweetDeck.

was one of the award show's sponsor and biggest ad buyers. Soon after DeGeneres' selfie broke the record for most retweets, Samsung's twitter account tweeted, "Record-breaking selfie taken on #TheNextBigThing! Noted."

According to Ad Age, Samsung sponsored ABC's "The Oscars Backstage" -- which includes a series of promoted celebrity selfies.

Tech blog Gizmodo claims that DeGeneres is an iPhone fan, and has her own app on Apple's App Store. However, Degeneres' social media toolbox isn't exclusive to one brand. Several tweets on the Oscar hosts' account are posted using Adobe Social.
