Ohio man who ate roommate's brain up for parole
MILFORD, Ohio -- An Ohio man who nearly 40 years ago killed his roommate and ate part of his brain could be getting out of prison.
CBS affiliate WKRC reported 60-year-old David Allen Chapin is serving life at a prison in Lima for shooting his longtime friend Donald Liming in the eye in October 1978, in a dispute over religion. The two 23-year-olds were sharing an apartment in Milford, in southwest Ohio.
Clermont County Prosecutor Vincent Faris told WKRC Chapin killed Liming and ate a portion of his brain before trying to donate the body.
"He put his friend's body in his trunk, drove the vehicle to Raymond Walker's College and told a professor he had a body available for dissection," Faris said.
Chapin told a court-ordered psychiatrist he ate Liming's brain as part of a "mutual agreement" between the friends.
The Ohio Parole Board held a closed hearing Feb. 1, but members couldn't reach a majority decision. That triggered a central office review that could take several weeks.
Chapin has been denied parole at least four previous times.
