Neil Patrick Harris joining "American Horror Story: Freak Show"

Neil Patrick Harris is officially going to get freaky.

The actor has signed on for a guest-spot on "American Horror Story: Freak Show," multiple reports said Wednesday.

Harris, who is hosting next year's Oscars and is also slated to host his own variety show on NBC, will reportedly play a chameleon salesman. He'll appear in the final two episodes of the FX anthology series' fourth season.

His husband, David Burtka, is also set to turn up in the season finale as part of a storyline involving Jessica Lange's Elsa Mars, according to TV Line, which was first to report the casting developments.

The news comes after Harris had expressed a desire to guest-star on "American Horror Story." Earlier this month, series co-creator Ryan Murphy said he was working on making it happen.

"He's game; he had very specific ideas about what he wanted to do and I have specific ideas. We're working on melding those," Murphy said of Harris. "I'd love to see him and Jessica Lange go at it in a really fun way and Neil seems intrigued by that notion. We're inching forward."

Harris and Burtka aren't the only familiar faces coming to the "Freak Show" this season -- according to Entertainment Weekly, Lily Rabe will reprise her role from "American Horror Story: Asylum" as Sister Mary Eunice for a storyline involving fellow "Asylum" holdover character Pepper (Naomi Grossman). Rabe will reportedly appear on the show's 10th episode.
