Massive $447.8M Powerball lottery jackpot up for grabs

NEW YORK -- Grab on to your tickets! The Powerball lottery jackpot is now a whopping $447.8 million, CBS New York reports.

The top prize in Saturday's drawing would tie for the nation's 10th largest lottery prize.

The winning numbers were:

20, 26, 32, 38, 58 and Powerball number: 3

There seems to be a ticket in California that matches all the numbers, according to the Powerball website.

So what were the odds of winning: 1 in 292.2 million.

"When it comes to a jackpot like this, you've got to take advantage," Edwin Leon, of the Bronx, told CBS New York.

That's why he bought a few tickets as he started off his Saturday. He said it's not so much for the potential fortune, but the fun.

People lined up at a Sunnyside, Queens store, smiling at each other and spreading the good luck vibe.

"You've got to go for it day by day. That's what my dad tells me," Leon said.

Many shared how they would spend the money.

"Definitely help my parents out - that's the first thing I would do. Pay off my college tuition, help out wherever I can and start living a different life probably."

"Maybe help a few family members, but got back to Florida," Wayne Massaro said.

"I'm going back to my country and my family in the Philippines," another woman added.

For New Yorkers, the $435 million jackpot is worth just shy of $288 million after taxes, spread out over 30 years. If you go for the cash payout instead, you'll net almost $181 million after taxes. This was calculated before the jackpot was updated to more than $447 million late Saturday.

No one has won the jackpot since April 1st, when a player in Arizona won a comparatively meager $60 million.

Wednesday's drawing saw two top prizes won in New Jersey.

A ticket sold at Amboy Food Liquor & News in South Amboy won $150,000, while one sold at the Quick Chek on Jackson Avenue in Pompton Plains won $50,000.

Powerball lottery is played in 44 States, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands, according to its website.

This story has been updated to reflect an incorrect number in the Powerball drawing where an on-screen graphic read that one of the winning numbers was 38 instead of 58.
