Kendrick Lamar leads Soul Train Awards nominees

Kendrick Lamar leads the crop of nominees for the 2013 Soul Train Awards.

The rapper is in the running for six awards, including best new artist, album of the year for "good kid, m.A.A.d city" and song and video of the year for "Poetic Justice." Justin Timberlake, Miguel, Robin Thicke, Chris Brown and Tamar Braxton are not far behind, tying with five nominations each.

Lamar, Timberlake, Miguel, Jay-Z, Rihanna and Fantasia will battle against one another in the album of the year category.

Competing for song of the year are the tracks: "Blurred Lines," by Thicke feat. Pharrell & T.I.; "Diamonds" by Rihanna; Brown's "Fine China"; "Love and War" from Braxton; "Poetic Justice," by Lamar feat. Drake; and "Suit & Tie," by Timberlake feat. Jay Z.

The Soul Train Awards, hosted by actor/comedian Anthony Anderson, will take place Nov. 8 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, before airing Dec. 1 on BET and Centric. Performers and presenters will be announced soon.

Last year's awards show featured performances by Stevie Wonder, Ne-Yo and Fantasia. Beyonce, Tyrese and Miguel were among the winners.
