Jay Paterno: Father did not suspect Sandusky was a predator
(CBS News) Penn State football coach Joe Paterno "in no way or shape or form ever suspected that Jerry Sandusky was a child predator," his son Jay Paterno said Thursday in an interview with CBS News.
The elder Paterno died this year shortly after allegations came to light that Sandusky, an assistant coach, had sexually abused more than a dozen young boys and that Penn State officials had concealed the allegations.
Speaking to Evening News anchor Scott Pelley, Jay Paterno noted that his father said late in life that -- with the benefit of hindsight -- he wished he had done more, but that he did not know what Sandusky had done and did not interfere with any investigations.
Sandusky was convicted last month on 45 of 48 charges in relation to the sexual abuse.
Jay Paterno said that "history will judge" his father, who he said wanted the truth to come out.
