HP recalls laptop batteries due to overheating hazards
HP users, be on the lookout. On June 14, the company announced a worldwide voluntary safety recall of notebook computer batteries that posed fire and burn hazards. HP let users know that certain batteries sold as replacements or that shipped with laptops between March 2013 and August 2015 were at risk, according to a company release.
The batteries that posed the problem came with certain HP, Compaq, HP ProBook, HP ENVY, Compaq Presario, and HP Pavilion Notebook computers. HP warned that these batteries had the potential to overheat.
"Because these batteries pose a fire and burn hazard, it is extremely important for customers to check whether their batteries are affected, and to cease use of affected batteries immediately," HP stated. "Customers may continue to use their notebook computer without the battery installed, by connecting the notebook to external power."
It is important to note that not all batteries associated with these computer models are affected. The company is directing all users to its HP Battery Recall website to go through the online validation and replacement process.
