"Gilmore Girls" team teases fans with Instagram of an apple

Whatever you do, don't try to pull one over on "Gilmore Girls" fans.

With promotional activities ramping up for the Netflix-produced return of the series, fans are keeping an eye out for anything that could be a clue as to plot developments for the new episodes.

So when the show's official Instagram account posted a photo of a tray of Pop Tarts and a solitary apple, "Gilmore Girls" loyalists went into overdrive trying to figure out what it all meant.

The photo featured the Gilmore kitchen table covered in newspapers along with a Netflix coffee mug and a plate of Pop Tarts arranged around an apple. The caption? "Pop-Tart appetizers to hold us over 'till the pizza comes. And one apple."

Fans began theorizing immediately that the lone apple signifies some big plot development -- specifically that one of the leading Girls (played by Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel) is pregnant, since Lorelai (Graham) had once mentioned only enjoying eating apples while expecting.

But before the theories could spin too far out of control, other fans were quick to point out that both the plate arrangement and the caption were taken directly from an old episode of the show.

Okay, okay. I definitely think I over-reacted just a little! 😂😂 The quote that Netflix used in their caption --" Pop-Tart appetizers to hold us over 'till the pizza comes. And one apple" is almost identical to the quote said by Lorelai in episode 13 of season one when Rory, Paris, Madeline and Louise are working on their school project and go to the Bangles concert! She even serves them an identical plate of pop-tarts with an apple in the center. The "And one apple" part of their caption and all of the comments on the photo definitely through me off! Sneaky, Netflix. 😉 #gilmoregirls #gilmoregirlsrevival #ggonlyrevivalnews #lorelaigilmore #rorygilmore #laurengraham #alexisbledel #starshollow #gilmoregirlsayearinthelife

Just think, only a little less than four months to go until the new episodes debut on Nov. 25, so expect a lot more instances like this between now and then.
