Former "Hills" star Lo Bosworth: I'd love my own cooking show

Lo Bosworth may have grown up in California's Laguna Beach, but the reality TV star-turned-chef now calls New York City home.

While in the Big Apple, Bosworth, 28, has really been taking it all in, graduating from the International Culinary Center in June and launching her own lifestyle site, TheLoDown, focusing on food, fashion and beauty.

Bosworth, who starred in MTV's "Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County" and "The Hills," is honing her kitchen skills as a chef.

"I would love to have my own cooking show...I really like healthy but delicious food," Bosworth told CBS News. "I'm really focused on using products that are sourced locally, organically and using things that all are natural. If you're using real food, you don't have to add a lot of butter. You don't have to add a lot of oil...You just put fresh herbs on it and tastes amazing. That's what I'm really excited about as a chef."

We caught up with Bosworth about everything from fashion and cooking to her time on "The Hills." Check it out:

On her style: "Definitely minimalist but chic. I live in downtown New York and what I wear is really an expression of where I am today. Being in New York has taught me I'm allowed to wear whatever I want and feel good about that. So I do wear a lot of black. I know that's a New York thing, but I focus on a lot of classic pieces...and a little bit of trends here and there. Just fashion-forward, chic and minimal."

On top beauty advice: "As I've gotten older I've become really passionate about drinking water. I know that's not a beauty product, but if I haven't had enough water I can literally feel it in my skin the next day on my face. Being hydrated is really important and using a fantastic moisturizer is really important. It's less about the makeup and more about that's underneath the makeup.

Her one go-to makeup item: "Mascara...it opens up your eyes a little bit."

On why she loves cooking: "My love and passion for cooking really came as a child from my mother. She made dinner from scratch almost every single night for us. I would come home from school and I would hang out with her in the kitchen and that was my passion and my inspiration. When I moved to New York I would have these dinner parties. My family still lives on the West Coast, so I love to get my friends together to have that feeling of home."

On her her favorite foods: "I'm a big fan of quinoa...It's really good for you. It's super high in protein. I like things that are really high in protein...I exercise every day, so I really think of food as fuel...I eat a lot of arugula and I really love eggs. A poached egg is the best. You can put a poached egg on anything and it makes it so good."

On her latest food venture: "For me, I'm really passionate about eating food that's good and healthy. So I've partnered with Chobani to work on their #StopSadBreakfast campaign and I'm so excited about it. I've been eating Chobani for years, and I probably have three a day -- for breakfasts and for snacks. I cook with the yogurt. I use it as a substitute in savory and sweet dishes."

On her time on "The Hills" and "Laguna Beach": "For me, being on those shows -- and I think it's more apparent now because reality TV has been around longer -- it's really a job. And viewers and people who are aware of it now, but I don't think [they] were as clued in at the time. So I just think that it's funny that I still read comments about my behavior on the show, who I was so mean to XYZ and people just don't realize that they turn you into a character and make story lines and plots around minimal footage...It's interesting now because I've felt this stigma from being on a reality show for the past couple of years. But as you move forward, you can be a part of television that is more documentary-style..it's becoming much more acceptable. I think people see it now and realize that it's [reality TV] more of a job than anything else."

On who she talks to from her reality TV days: "I'm good friends with Lauren Conrad. She's one of my best friends. I was just at her wedding. And I keep in touch with Stephanie Pratt. She lives in London now and she's doing really well."

On if she would do another reality show: "I've given it a lot of thought because a lot of people have proposed the idea. I feel as though it would be hard to come up with a reality show that would top 'The Hills.' 'The Hills' was so popular and to do something different, unless it was completely different, it would be hard to want to participate in something because I just don't think it would be able to match up to what that show accomplished."
