DNC announces 2016 convention date

Washington - The 2016 Democratic National Convention will be held the week of July 25, 2016, DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced Friday.

The committee has not yet selected a host city from among its finalists: Columbus, New York and Philadelphia. Wasserman Schultz said in a statement, "We are still in discussions with three excellent cities and are looking forward to a diverse and inclusive convention that displays our party's values." The DNC says it's in "final contract negotiations" and will announce the city in the coming weeks.

Republicans will hold their nominating convention in Cleveland a week earlier than Democrats, from July 18-21.
