Boy, 12, shot day after 7-year-old's fatal shooting, Miami-Dade police say

HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- Miami-Dade police said a 12-year-old boy was hospitalized after being shot multiple times Monday night.

According to the Miami Herald, police said the shooting happened in the Homestead area, about 28 miles southwest of Miami, just before 8 p.m.

The boy told police he was walking when the shooter fired at him, hitting him three times in the torso.

Police said the boy was rushed to a hospital. There was no official word on his condition yet.

The motive of the shooting is unknown.

The shooting happened the day after a 7-year-old boy was fatally shot in Richmond Heights, also in south Miami-Dade.

Officials said the 7-year-old child was watching TV in the living room when a car drove by and opened fire, CBS Miami reports.

Police were searching for a Dodge Ram believed to be involved.

Miami-Dade Commissioner Dennis Moss said of that shooting, "It's our worst nightmare realized."
