Cool mornings are followed by toasty afternoons this week in North Texas

Steady warm-up brings the return of summer temperatures to DFW

Tuesday was another beautiful day in North Texas, with highs settling just a few degrees below average, in the upper 80s for the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

We won't be below-average much longer, however. By Wednesday, plan for a cool morning, with lows in the mid-60s. Then by afternoon, we'll be looking at highs in the lower 90s. This puts us right close to normal for a day, then temperatures continue to warm through the end of the week.

A ridge of high pressure is currently moving eastward through Texas. By late week, it settles in over North Texas, when we'll be under the influence of southerly flow, which warms our temperatures into the mid-90s, sending us back above normal.

Expect abundant sunshine, with nearly non-existent rain chances through the end of the extended period, thanks to that high-pressure ridge.

The downside for us is the pollen count, which is very high. The predominant pollens in North Texas are ragweed, elm, and chenopods.

For the Cowboys' home opener on Sunday, expect a warm day, with highs 5° warmer for that point in the year.
