Woman drives to hospital with gunshot wound to head

LACOMBE, La. -- Police say a Louisiana woman who was shot in the head by her ex-boyfriend was able to drive herself to the hospital.

The Advocate reports Ronald Anthony Brown was charged with one count of attempted murder after shooting the woman through her car window after an argument Monday evening in Lacombe, across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans.

The woman reported that when she entered her residence, she discovered Brown inside armed with a weapon. After the struggle, she said she attempted to flee in her vehicle, and he opened fire.

After the woman arrived at Louisiana Heart Hospital, it was temporarily placed on lockdown following a report that a vehicle similar to Brown's was seen in the area, reports CBS affiliate WWLTV. The lockdown was later lifted when officials determined Brown wasn't in the area.

He was later arrested in Lacombe, and officials also confiscated a weapon, reports the station.

Hospital staff says the woman's injuries do not appear to be life threatening, but she is still undergoing evaluation and treatment.

Brown was sent to St. Tammany Parish Jail.
