Woman, 80, Beaten to Death in Memphis Church
An 80-year-old woman was found dead inside Central United Methodist Church in Wynne, Ark. CBS affiliate WREG in Memphis reports that church members said the pastor found Lillian Wilson Sunday. Members also said that Wilson may have been beaten with a cross.
"It's just unbelievable," said one church member who wanted to remain anonymous. "We hear it in other places but it doesn't happen here."
Wilson was at the church Sunday to pick up disaster relief buckets to take to another church, said church members. A person or persons came in, beat her to death and took her car, a silver Grand Marquis.
"She would have given them her car and the money she had and told them to go with it," said a friend of Wilson's. "All they had to do was ask her for it. They didn't have to do this to her."
Friends say Wilson was kind to people and loved animals, and even kept a "Please be kind" to animals sign in her front yard.
The Cross County, Ark., sheriff says there are two suspects in the case and thinks they're still driving Wilson's car. He said they may have left the immediate Wynne area.
