Watson wears green jacket, heart on his sleeve

(CBS News) Bubba Watson defeated Louis Oosthiuzen in a sudden death playoff to win golf's greatest prize Sunday - the Masters.

With five holes to go, eight players from five different countries were in contention. In the end, it was a surprise win for the 33-year-old American who hit an extraordinary, out-of-the-woods hook shot on the second hole of a sudden death playoff.

"I never got this far in my dreams," Watson said after the victory.

It has been an incredible up-and-down journey for Watson, who says he's never had one golf lesson his whole life. He was three strokes back entering the final round, coming back thanks to four straight birdies on the back nine.

He finished second in his previous best shot at a major, at the PGA in 2010, while his father, who passed away later that year, was battling cancer. Only two weeks ago, Watson became a father by adopting a son, named Caleb.

In an often buttoned-down sport, this combustible personality has cried, often, at the end of tournaments. Sunday, he did it again, with good reason. "This day means so much more than putting on this green jacket in many ways," Watson said.

Second place finisher, South Africa's Louis Oousthuizen, was classy in defeat. Phil Mickelson, who made a brilliant run on Saturday, put himself out of contention with a triple bogey on Sunday. Tiger Woods finished far back. It was a highly disappointing tournament for Tiger Woods who finished far back.
