Volunteer coach for Detroit girls' basketball team faces sex charges
DETROIT -- A volunteer basketball coach at a Detroit high school has been charged with having inappropriate sexual contact with a 15-year-old student in a car outside her home.
Prosecutors say 25-year-old Kevin Orr-Matthews is in custody and is expected to be arraigned Thursday on first- and third-degree criminal sexual conduct charges.
Matthews worked with the girls' basketball team at Henry Ford High School. The 15-year-old was not on the team at the time.
An attorney for Orr-Matthews was not listed in court records.
Henry Ford is part of the Education Achievement Authority, Michigan's turnaround district for low-performing public schools.
A district spokesman says a complaint was made to another coach who contacted school officials. Police were then notified.
