(CBS News) Usher's 11-year-old stepson, Kyle Glover, has been declared brain dead by doctors after being hit by a Jet Ski, reports TMZ.

Kyle, the son of the singer's ex-wife Tameka Foster, was floating on an inner tube in Georgia's Lake Lanier Friday with a 15-year-old friend when he was struck in the head, according to reports.

Kyle remains in critical condition, reports TMZ. The girl with him was also hurt in the accident, but her injuries aren't as serious. She's currently in stable condition, according to CBS Atlanta affiliate WGCL-TV.

Authorities said the driver of the Jet Ski was a 38-year-old man and that no alcohol was involved, WGCL-TV reports.

Two rangers saved the girl, and "a pair of Good Samaritans rescued the boy," reports the CBS affiliate.

Robin Hill, a rep for the Department of Natural Resources, told TMZ an investigation is under way. Officials plan to recreate the accident using computer programs.

Sources told TMZ Usher and Foster arrived at the hospital shortly after the accident. The former couple, who split in 2009, have two children together: Usher Raymond V, 4, and Naviyd, 3.

Celebrities have since reacted to the accident on Twitter:
