Tyler Perry: I don't take my audience for granted

(CBS News) Tyler Perry has found massive success writing, directing and acting in his movies and TV shows - particularly his "Madea" franchise - but he's not taking that success lightly. He said he never takes his audience for granted.

"I don't think people are going to come just to come," Perry said Wednesday on "CBS This Morning." "No. I want to make sure that I give them a good movie and this is a great one and I think they're going to love it."

Perry who wrote, directed, and stars in "Madea's Witness Protection," said the film's inspiration came from a discussion about infamous Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff. Madoff is currently serving a 150-year sentence in a federal prison in Butner, N.C.

"I was having dinner with a friend, and they said to me, 'You know what the greatest punishment for Bernie Madoff would have been, if he had to move in with Madea," Perry said. "And I said, 'That's it, that's a movie I have to write.'"

"Madea's Witness Protection" is in theaters nationwide on June 29.
