Two buses collide in Lincoln Tunnel; dozens injured

WEEHAWKEN, N.J. — Two NJ TRANSIT buses headed to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan collided in the Lincoln Tunnel, injuring at least 23 people.

The accident happened around 8:50 a.m. Monday in the center tube of the tunnel. NJ TRANSIT spokeswoman Lisa Torbic said a 127 Line bus headed from Ridgefield rear-ended a 128 Line bus out of Fairview, reports CBS New York.

The Lincoln Tunnel travels under the Hudson River and connects Weehawken, New Jersey, with midtown Manhattan.

Port Authority Police spokesman Joe Pentangelo said the door on one bus had to be cut open and the injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Motorists heading into New York are facing delays of more than one hour.

NJ TRANSIT says bus tickets and passes will be accepted by PATH trains at the Hoboken Terminal only.
