Tribeca Film Festival takes New York City

(CBS News) The Tribeca Film Festival is officially under way and the lower Manhattan neighborhood will be bustling with movie screenings, talks and parties this weekend.

The festival will screen a total of 88 features, chosen from 5,950 entries, before it closes on April 29.

The festival opened with the screening of Universal's "The Five-Year Engagement," which stars Emily Blunt and Jason Segel, and will close with another high-profile studio movie, "The Avengers."

In between, selected films will show in various theaters in lower Manhattan. The selection includes: "While We Where Here," starring Kate Bosworth; "Struck By Lightning," written by "Glee's" Chris Colfer; "Take This Waltz," starring Michelle Williams and Seth Rogan, "Trishna," starring Frieda Pinto; "2 Days In New York," written by Julie Delpy starring herself and Chris Rock; and many more.

Events aren't limited  to film screenings. On Saturday, Sony Pictures Classics exec Dylan Leiner and documentary producer Jeffrey Saunders host NYFEST Soccer Day, which  will feature a celebrity soccer game at Hudson River Park. Later that night, Chanel hosts its annual Artist Awards dinner at Odeon.

On Sunday, actress Susan Sarandon will interview documentary filmmaker Michael Moore at the Borough of Manhattan Community College.
