ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (CBS/WAFB/AP) A state judge ruled that 16-year-old Trevor Reese should be tried as an adult after allegedly cutting 8-year-old Jackson Attuso's throat.

District Judge William G. Carmichael ruled Friday, June 11 that due to the nature of the crime, Reese is eligible for prosecution as an adult.

Reese, of St. Francisville, was arrested Thursday on a charge of first-degree murder. West Feliciana Parish Sheriff J. Austin Daniel says the 8-year-old, of Clinton, was stabbed repeatedly in the front and back, and his throat was cut.

Daniel said Reese walked up to a carpenter nearby and told him to call 911 because he had just stabbed a child, according to CBS affiliate WAFB.

District Attorney Sam D'Aquilla says Carmichael ordered Reese held without bail at least until a hearing. A grand jury was to consider the case this week.
