Toys R Us armed robber found hiding in box, say cops

TOWSON, Md. -- Police say a man held up a Toys R Us store near Baltimore at gunpoint, before hiding from authorities in a box, reports CBS Baltimore.

Elbert Darell Crump of Towson, Md. is accused of terrifying a store full of customers and employees, wielding a gun while demanding cash.

Customers inside the Towson store called police Thursday as the robbery was happening, CBS Baltimore reports.

Crimp, 45, allegedly saw police and hid for more than an hour until tactical teams found him hiding in a large box.

He was arrested without any shots fired.

Cpl. John Wachter of the Baltimore County Police Department credited 911 callers with the arrest.

"Maybe he thought all these people standing around watching him wouldn't call police, but they were attentive. They saw what he was doing, they called us and let us know," Wachter said.

The entire incident left customers at the busy shopping center rattled and questioning their own safety.

"It's craziness to even think that someone would do that at a kid's store," one woman said.

The suspect is being held without bail on several criminal charges, including armed robbery and first-degree assault.

Police say no one inside the store was injured in the incident.
