Missing college student vanishes after being pulled over

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police in Kansas City, Mo. say they’re searching for a 20-year-old college student who vanished after she was pulled over around 4 a.m. Monday.

Toni Anderson had just left her job as a server at Chrome, a Kansas City strip club, and was heading to meet friends when a North Kansas City officer pulled her over for an improper lane change, reports the Kansas City Star. Anderson reportedly told the officer she was almost out of gas. The officer gave Anderson a warning and watched as she drove to a nearby gas station, a North Kansas City police spokesman told the paper.

During the traffic stop, she texted a friend that she was getting pulled over “again.” The friend, Roxy Townsend, told the Wichita Eagle Anderson frequently gets pulled over.

Anderson never showed up to meet her friends after work, and she was reported missing. Investigators are reportedly using license plate readers and video surveillance and tracking her cellphone in an effort to locate her.

Family tells CBS affiliate KCTV Anderson attends the University of Missouri-Kansas City and is studying interpersonal communications.

“We are desperately trying to find out exactly what happened,” Kansas City police spokeswoman Sgt. Kari Thompson told the station.

She urged anyone with information to come forward.
