S.C. music teacher accused of sex act with student

SUMTER, S.C. — The lawyer for a South Carolina middle school teacher charged with committing a sex act on a student says her client is innocent.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies say 31-year-old music teacher Elizabeth Moss had inappropriate sexual contact with a 13-year-old student at Chestnut Oaks Middle School. Authorities say they are investigating whether she also sexually assaulted other students.

Attorney Rose Mary Parham says the allegations against Moss are completely untrue.

In a fax sent to CBS affiliate WBTW last week, Parham said, “These accusations arose after Beth disciplined some of her students at school. She is innocent of all charges and looks forward to her day in court.”

School officials say they found messages from Moss to students on Facebook and contacted investigators.

A warrant was executed at Moss’ residence on Wednesday, and several items believed to be relevant to the case were seized, according to WBTW.

Moss is charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor and is in jail awaiting a bond hearing.
