Shonda Rhimes' first book, "Year of Yes," arriving this fall

Shonda Rhimes is working on her first book.

The award-winning showrunner and creator of "Grey's Anatomy" and "Scandal" has an agreement with Simon & Schuster for "Year of Yes," the publisher announced Tuesday.

Rhimes was inspired to write the book, coming in November, after she was dared in December 2013 to for one year say yes to unexpected invitations.

"Saying yes for an entire year turned out to be one of the most amazing decisions I have ever made," Rhimes said in a statement. "It was also a little insane, a lot terrifying and sometimes wildly embarrassing. So this is not a story I ever planned to share with anyone. However, once Simon & Schuster asked me, I had no choice -- what else could I say but yes?"

This isn't the only new project Rhimes has in the works -- she's also debuting a new drama series, "The Catch," on ABC in the fall.

Simon & Schuster is a part of CBS Corporation.
