Sheena Cornwell, 28, was arrested Saturday evening for allegedly killing Lilly, a 10-year-old pit bull mix that belonged to Joshua VanDyke.

VanDyke told KCCI that Cornwell became annoyed when she heard the dog barking. He said she walked outside and, before he knew what had happened, he heard Lilly banging against the garage door.

Police said he found the dog hanging in the garage by her collar, with the leash strung up on the rafters. VanDyke reportedly told police he wanted to get a restraining order against Cornwell, who he said didn't seem remorseful about her actions.

Animal torture is an aggravated misdemeanor for a first offense, KCCI reports. Cornwell was released a few hours after her arrest. If convicted, she could face a fine and possible jail time.
