Severed leg belonged to missing Fla. woman Kelly Moriarty, police say
(CBS/AP) ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Authorities say a severed leg that washed ashore in Florida two days after Christmas is that of missing Bradenton woman Kelly Moriarty.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says Moriarty, 38, remains missing along with her 62-year-old girlfriend, Doris Carter.
The two women were last seen by family on Dec. 16, when they left Carter's house in a rural area north of Plant City, east of Tampa. They were in Moriarty's car.
Four days later, the car was found abandoned in Parrish, near Bradenton. A search of Moriarty's impounded car by crime scene technicians found no evidence of foul play, reports CBS affiliate WTSP.
On Dec. 27, a neatly severed leg, pale and bent at the knee, washed ashore in St. Petersburg. According to WTSP, this is where it was discovered by tourists.
The leg was finally traced to Moriarty last week.
