Prince William and Kate's royal baby to be Prince or Princess of Cambridge
We don't yet know the birth date, gender or name of Prince William and Kate's soon-to-be-born royal baby, but we now know what the little one's title will be.
"The royal couple's child will officially be known as His or Her Royal Highness Prince or Princess of Cambridge," a palace spokesman confirmed Monday.
The child's title follows the dukedom bestowed on William by his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, on his wedding day in 2011.
"It is a great honour and I'm sure the people of Cambridge will appreciate it greatly," the mayor of Cambridge, Councillor Paul Saunders, told the Daily Mail.
That style of title is the same one Elizabeth had before she was queen (she was HRH Princess Elizabeth of York), People notes. The same style is also used by William's cousins Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie of York.
Earlier this year, the queen issued a royal decree allowing this royal baby -- and all of William and Kate's children -- to be titled prince or princess.
The decree said "that all the children of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales should have and enjoy the style, title and attribute of royal highness with the titular dignity of Prince or Princess prefixed to their Christian names or with such other titles of honour."
The Duchess of Cambridge is due to give birth sometime this month. That child will be third-in-line to Britian's throne, regardless of whether it's a boy or girl.
