Prabal Gurung tapped to design Target collection

Target has announced the collaborator for its latest budget-friendly designer collection: Prabal Gurung.

The Singapore-born designer is creating a limited-edition collection of women's ready-to-wear and accessories, which will launch next year.

"I am so thrilled to be working with Target on a collection that brings my designs to a wider audience," Gurung said in a statement. "This collection was inspired by love and if Target's guests can feel even a little bit of the love that I felt while I was designing this collection, then I will consider it a job well done."

The retailer released a first look at the collection Monday, showing a model wearing a floral-printed ensemble.

According to Target, the looks reflect Gurung's "distinct aesthetic, with impeccable tailoring and feminine silhouettes, and features striking prints, hot-hued palettes and sleek styles." The array of clothing, handbags, shoes and jewelry will range in price from $19.99 (for a T-shirt, according to Vogue) to $199.99 (for a leather jacket).

The designer told Target's "A Bullseye View" blog that his inspiration for the collection was "a girl's journey through the different stages of love and the clothes she wears during each milestone--from the first date to meeting the parents to the engagement."

Gurung joins a list of Target collaborators that includes Jason Wu (whose Jason Wu for Target line launched earlier this year), Missoni, Rodarte and Proenza Schouler.

Prabal Gurung for Target will arrive in Target stores and online beginning on Feb. 10.
