Police: Daughter kills mother in N.C. tire shop shooting

DURHAM, N.C. -- Investigators say that the c0-owner of a Durham tire shop was shot and killed by her daughter Monday afternoon -- the same location where the victim's husband was wounded in a 2012 shooting, CBS affiliate WRAL reported.

Betty Tice Turner, 62, was killed inside J.T. Tire in Durham. Her daughter, Rebekah Turner Maxwell, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder -- remaining in jail without bond Monday night, deputies told the station.

Investigators did not specify what led to the incident.

Stephanie Byrd, whose father had worked at the business for years, remembers Turner as a person who was always available.

"A good person. Holidays she would make our family cakes and deserts," she told WRAL. "She was always there for my family when we needed her."

This isn't the first time the family-owned business has been the site of such a tragedy, according to WRAL. In March 2012, five people were shot inside the tire shop when a man walked in, leaving two dead. Turner's husband was one of the survivors.

The suspect in the 2012 shooting, O'Brian McNeil White, was later arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, three counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to the station.

His trial is currently scheduled for March 2.
