Cops: Ky. mom shot dead in front of son, 8, on Mother's Day

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Authorities say a Kentucky woman was fatally shot on Mother's Day in front of her 8-year-old son, who had yet to give her the gift he had bought for her.

Louisville Metro Police Department Lt. Todd Kessinger tells news outlets that the boy was present when 27-year-old Angelina Pressley was shot multiple times in the parking lot of her apartment complex early Sunday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speaking to CBS affiliate WLKY, family members say they want the killer to know what a devoted mom Pressley was.

"I couldn't ask for more. She's the best mother I could ever imagine. She was always there every game, every parent-teacher conference," Darren Brasher Jr., her ex, said.

The boy's grandmother described her as the daughter she never had, adding that Pressley was a special education teacher who dedicated herself to her students, while loving her only son unconditionally.

The victim's ex said he had taken the 8-year-old shopping Saturday for a Mother's Day gift, with the boy referring her as a "Supermom."

"We both picked out the flowers and the card. I put she was the number one mom. I think she was going to open it on Mother's Day," the victim's son said, according to the station.

When Pressley was killed on Sunday, she and her fiancé had reportedly just arrived home with her son. The family told the station that they were ambushed, with a man pointing a gun at the 8-year-old before turning it on his mother.

The killer then fired off two shots and then took off, the family told WLKY.

"On Mother's Day. It's a coward. The only word I can think of to describe that heartless demon," Brasher said.

Investigators have not yet named a suspect in the slaying, but are asking that anyone with information to call police.
